Pornography is not just a personal issue; it's a societal one! It's not just something that happens to a specific type of person. It's a problem that affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. That's why this conversation is so essential for us to engage in as church leaders!
The effects of pornography on individuals can include increased feelings of shame, guilt, and isolation. It can also lead to problems with sexual function and intimacy, as well as mental and emotional health issues. For couples, it can cause trust issues, communication problems, and even lead to infidelity. Pornography's impact on relationships can be devastating, and it's a topic that needs to be addressed with honesty and compassion.
So how do we find freedom from the patterns and traps many people often fall into?
On this week's podcast, I had the privilege of speaking with Helena Bonneteau about her experience co-founding Secret Habit and their work to help men and women work through the harmful effects of their addiction and find freedom on the other side. Her vulnerability and honesty give insight into this addiction's damaging impact on couples while offering hope and encouragement for anyone struggling in that place right now!
Don't miss out on the incredible insights that Helena Bonneteau shares in episode 110 of the Ron Huntley Leadership Podcast, "Pornography & Rejection Trauma in Marriage."

Historically, the Church has focused on a centralized leadership model where all decisions and actions flow through one person – their Pastor.
But as more and more pastors shift towards breaking free from the constraints of clericalism, the potential for positive impact increases exponentially!
On this week's podcast, I'm joined again by Khalil Hattar, a Pastoral Associate at St. John the Evangelist Parish. Khalil shares his journey of discerning out of the priesthood while still feeling a call to serve God with his life. He shares valuable insights into finding a place where your gifts are utilized and valued, and he honestly reflects on his own experience as the team at SJE has grown and evolved over the past 7 years.
Our conversation explores the opportunities that arise when pastoral and lay leaders can partner together and the powerful impact on the mission that can be achieved. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to elevate their leadership skills and be a part of creating a more fruitful parish.

How do we effectively mobilize our communities around mission, while understanding the realities of the new post-lockdown world we live in? It's no secret that the world has changed since Covid. And when it comes to church leadership, that change can be really hard to navigate.
I had the privilege of speaking with Dan McCarty on this week's podcast. After serving internationally with Alpha Ireland through the pandemic, Dan now serves churches and church leaders locally with Alpha USA. He's passionate about helping parishes and churches from all denominations to reach the lost and fulfill the Great Commission.

In the church, we often judge & evaluate fruitfulness based on external factors–things like the offertory, the October counts, or the number of people coming through the doors each week.
But Jesus himself used a different metric for measuring success: "Did you love the least of these? The forgotten?"
We're not used to judging fruitfulness by how many people we've formed & sent into the community to be living witnesses & disciple-makers. We've moved into an apostolic stage where it's imperative that we learn how to share the gospel through testimony, ask good questions of our neighbours and facilitate groups for authentic conversation to take place.
But what does that look like in practice?
This week's guest, Jason Simon, President of the Evangelical Catholic, is full of hope and passion for the church's future. His experience of being sought after and apprenticed by a zealous disciple maker drives him to help others have the confidence and skills to reach people in the world with the abundant life of Jesus. Under his leadership, the Evangelical Catholic has experienced a consistent expansion in equipping Catholic laity for apostolic impact worldwide. He has seen first-hand the power of lay evangelization fueled by the institution of the Church.
Our conversation is a deep dive into leadership formation and bringing the mission alive in a fresh way in your parish. From forming and training people for this work to supporting them within the community, then finally uniting laypeople in a vision of outreach for the community!

Parents and youth ministers in the Catholic church want their children to grow up and attend a parish where they can get sustained formation. The problem is that many parishes are not actually equipped with leaders who can do that effectively.
Even with well-trained youth leaders, the capacity is limited in parishes that are not well-led and where the culture isn't healthy at its core. This is how your best people end up burnt out because they aren't being given the support needed to thrive.
As parish leaders, we're often waiting for the "next generation" to come to us, or perhaps they're already here, but they're leaving because we aren't connecting in the way that they need us to. It's vital for us to address these growing concerns, be willing to break away from what no longer works and reimagine the way that we reach the next generation with the love of Jesus!
This week's guest helps parishes create a culture where this type of change can happen.
Joel Stepanek is the VP of Parish Services at Life Teen, an organization that provides a safe and fun place for youth to experience Catholic community, get answers to their questions, and, most importantly, experience Jesus in a profound and personal way.
Our conversation dives into some of our deep-seated cultural norms and offers incredible insight about how we can more effectively engage young people in the Church.

Stewarding the physical spaces that God has entrusted to us as the Catholic Church can be daunting! Across the world, there are church leaders realizing that they have more building capacity than they have the staff capacity to maintain; many simply realize that their spaces aren't as effective as they once were.
Conversations around our places of worship are not unique to leaders in 2022 either! Looking at Scripture, we find an incredibly rich history regarding the places God's people gathered to worship.
In this week's episode, I'm joined by Graham Singh, Founder, and CEO of Trinity Centres Foundation–a Canadian charity established to transform historic city centre church properties into impactful community hubs. Our conversation dives into the church's history–as well as the current state of where things are–and provides a hope-filled vision for the future as leaders navigate these challenging topics!

Is your Alpha program getting the results you expect? Are people excited about what's happening? Are they experiencing God's presence in an authentic way through Alpha? Is it dynamic? Engaging? Exciting?
Because if not, something has to change!
But how do you bring life to an Alpha program that is getting stale, boring and lifeless? How do you get participants to come back each week and be excited to be there?
This week's guest is Louis Cain, Director of Evangelization at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Saint John, Indiana. After inheriting the parish Alpha program and running it for two years himself, Louis and the leadership team decided to completely overhaul how they ran their program to resemble the Alpha recipe more closely. The results were extraordinary!
If you're ready to bring new life to your own parish's Alpha program, this episode is a must-listen!
